The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

These pages are devoted to the hundreds of young men, women and older couples who have spent two years serving as missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Taunton area.

The Church in Taunton was established in

1850 and many of the early members emigrated to America and took part in the great treks west to Utah. After World war 2 , missionaries would regularly visit the members in Taunton.

Things changed in 1960 when two missionaries Elder Romney and Elder Moss took up lodgings in the town. Since that date, Mormon Missionaries have served the church in Taunton with faith and enthusiasm.

The membership of the church in Taunton has grown from half a dozen or so to over 150. No longer meeting in rented halls, the church has its own chapel in Deane Gate Avenue .

There have been around 400 Mormon Missionaries that have taken up the baton to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ and establish His church in Taunton.
